  4. Additional words for reference

  5. SampleMy name is Li Gang. I am eighteen years old. I come from Beijing and I graduated from a key high school. Beijing is the capital city of China; therefore, it is regarded as the political, economical and cultural center of our country. Besides, there are a lot of places of historical interest and scenic beauty. So I am very proud of my hometown. I have a lot of hobbies, such as playing tennis, basketball and listening to English songs. Before long, you’ll find that I am an easygoing boy. My teachers and classmates in high school often say that I am outgoing and quite adventurous. But, to tell the truth, sometimes I will also be a little bit shy. Anyway, like most young people, I love to make friends. And I believe we can become good friends.

  6. 3. Talking about someone you loveDirections: work in groups and tell your group members whom you love very much and explain why. The following words and phrases you may find useful.

  7. Additional words for talking someone you lovedevoted, heart-to-heart talk, trust, graceful(文雅的), straightforward(直率的), upright(正直的), brave, adventurous, strong will-power, gentle manner, friendly, cheerful, knowledgeable(博学的), wise, enthusiastic(热情的), frank(坦率的), responsible(有责任感的), tolerant(宽容的).

  8. SampleI love my friend Ellen very much, because she is a devoted friend. She is very hard working and warm-hearted. We often have heart-to-heart talks. She is very kind to me. Yet she can point my mistakes out straightforwardly. She is a true friend.

  9. Part II Listening-centered Activities

  10. Listening I 1 who called Susan? Michael. 2 why did he call Susan? He wanted to invite Susan to a new disco 3 What did Susan think of the offer? She thought it was terrific/marvelous/great 4 Where would the pick up Susan? He would pick up Susan at her home. 5 At what time would they meet? They would meet at seven Saturday night.

  11. Love Story Where do I begin to tell the story of how great love can be? The sweet love story that is older than the sea? The simple truth about the love she brings to me. Where do I start ? With her first hello, she gave a meaning to this empty world of mine. There’s never been another love another time . She came into my life and made the living fine . She fills my heart, she fills my heart,

  12. With very special things, with angel’s songs, with wild imaginings. She fills my soul with so much love, That anywhere I go i’m never lonely, with her along, Who could be lonely? I reach for her hand , it’s always there. How long does it last ? Can love be measured by the hours in a day, I have no answers now but this much I can say , I know I need her till the stars fade away, And she’ll be there, and she’ll be there.

  13. Traditionally, the heart is the part of the body where emotions come from. If you are a warm-hearted person, for example, you are kind and thoughtful towards others. If you have a heart of gold , you are a very generous person. But if you are heartless ,you are cruel and unfeeling.

  14. Of all the emotions, it is love that is the most associated with the heart. In love songs , all over the world, love almost always goes together with the heart. As the song from Titanic says : “You are here in my heart and my heart will go on and on. Love can touchus one time and last for a lifetime, and never let go till we’re gone."

  15. Perhaps the role of the heart in love comes from what happens to it when you feel really attracted to someone. The strong feelings of attraction make your breathing speed up and your heart beat fast.
