  1. One Love 1 John 4:7-21 June 22, 2014 Pastor David Ho Sang

  2. PREEMINENT PRIORITY OF LOVE • Triune God • Early Church • CrossWay • Ho Sangs

  3. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 1) Love is a command from God. "Beloved, let us love one another" (v. 7a; cf. v. 21) 2) Love originates from God. "For love is 'out of' God (v. 7b)

  4. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 3) Love for others indicates the life, knowledge, presence, work and love of God in us. "He who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God” (vs. 7c-8a) "No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit”(vs. 12-13) "He who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (v. 16b) "If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen." (v. 20)

  5. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 4) Love is the character of God. "God is love" (vs. 8b, 16b) 5) Love is demonstrated preeminently by our sacrificial God. "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him" (v. 9)

  6. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 6) Love is initiated by God. "In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and gave his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." (v. 10) 7) Love is demonstrated preeminently by the beloved's mandatory responseto God. "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another" (v. 11)

  7. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 8) Love of God is confident and fearless. "In this is love perfected with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love." (vs. 17-18) 9) Love is our response to the love of God for us. “We love, because he first loved us." (v. 19)

  8. TEN SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE 10) Love for God and for others is inseparable. "And this commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should love his brother also." (v. 21)

  9. APPLICATION: LOVING GOD & LOVING OTHERS • Loving God Totally. • Loving People "Asselfiely”.

  10. TWO PRACTICAL QUESTIONS FOR OUR EVERYDAY LIFE • Based on the top priority of our love relationship with God, how may God be prompting me/us to respond? • Based on our second priority of a "selfie" love for people, how may God be prompting me/us to respond?
