  2. Definition: The process essay is writing that explains how to do something or how something works by giving a step-by-step explanation.

  4. Two Ways to Approach A Process Paper Directional Informational How something works. How something occurred. How to explain a psychological process. Gain understanding of the process, not necessarily to perform it. In order of importance • How to do something • Gives directions to readers so they can perform the process. • Can be written in second person or third person. • Imperative mood: a command with an understanding subject “you” • Chronological

  5. Thesis Statements The thesis sentence in the introduction of a process essay must state the process to be explained and express a point of view (opinion, attitude, or judgment) about that process.

Just the facts please! • DO get your facts straight and find supporting data to build ethos in what you’re saying. • DO use who, what, when, where, and why to plan. • DON’T use second person YOU for this paper. • DO write about something that interests you. • DO add warning’s, tips, and what NOT to do. • DON’T forget to take yourself through the process so you can catch any missed steps. • DO use MLA format with a work cited page.

  9. Get With Your Group Your Task: Host a discussion with your group members and talk about something each of you is good at or knows how to do. Can you teach it? What sort of materials would you need to teach a group of 35? Choose your process paper based on a group members knowledge. Start planning. GOOD LUCK!!
