  2. The Project MOBAVIP = Mobility and Orientation for Blind And Visually Impaired Persons - duration: 1/11/2008 – 30/11/2010 - partners: National Commission for Persons with Disability, Malta Provision Solutions, UK sehwerk, Germany KIT – SZS, Germany

  3. Republic of Malta • island in the Mediterranean Sea • consists of 3 islands: Malta, Gozo, Comino • - size: 316 km2 (length: 27 km, width: 14,5 km) • inhabitants: about 400.000 • capital: Valetta (10.000 inhabitants) • EU Member State since 2004 • smallest European Member State

  4. Aims and objectives - 1 • to study the situation of blind and partially sighted persons vis-à-vis mobility and orientation and to identify the needs perceived in this area in Malta

  5. Aims and objectives - 2 • to develop a short preparatory course regarding mobility and orientation for sighted persons interested in persuing their studies

  6. Aims and objectives - 3 • to promote the use of IT and AT among the beneficiaries of the project: blind users, MOT and institutions

  7. Aims and objectives - 4 • to pass the knowledge gained from the preparatory course to blind and partially sighted persons in order to get professional skills in MOT

  8. Aims and objectives - 5 • to increase the independence and autonomy of blind and partially sighted persons in their home, at school, at work and in the community

  9. Aims and objectives - 6 • to pave the way for introducing a nation-wide service including educational and technical structures in school and Higher Education Institutions
