System Design Phase Approval Status • SEMP submitted to the Observatory Directors on 9/29/06 for approval • Official response not yet received (has been requested) • Major issue is how many $ can be made available in FY07 • Direction from WMKO management to proceed while decision is being made • Contracts (effective 10/1/06) to COO & UCSC need to be worked out NGAO Meeting #2

Work Scope Planning & Approval • Template posted at http://www.oir.caltech.edu/twiki_oir/bin/view.cgi/Keck/NGAO/WebHome under “Systems Engineering” • To be prepared by WBS element lead & approved prior to performing significant work on a WBS element • In general these should be submitted at least 1 week prior to the MS Project start date • Approvals & document control by Dekany & Wizinowich • We will endeavor to provide approvals within 5 working days of submittal NGAO Meeting #2

Document Control • All materials to be posted on Twiki site • All significant items should be made Keck Adaptive Optics Notes & will also be archived on Keck’s docushare site (Wizinowich to provide KAON numbers) • Simple documents can use “Work Scope” template with “Keck Adaptive Optics Note XXX” at top of title block • SD phase deliverable documents should use SEMP document as a template NGAO Meeting #2

Upcoming Tasks • Work Scope planning sheets • These should be submitted for all WBS elements that need to start in CY06 by 12/8 • These include WBS elements under: • 2.1 Science cases • 2.2 Observatory requirements • 2.3 System requirements • 3.1.1 Performance budgets • 3.1.2 Trade Studies • 3.5 Science Instruments • Work on the scheduled WBS elements for CY06 NGAO Meeting #2
