Pre-school 2014 Carrie Graham Statistician, Children and Families
Background • Centre-based (2,500 centres) • Online return completed by pre-school centres • From 2012 local authorities have ability to check returned data
What’s happening in 2014? • Changes to centre-based collection 2. Pilot of MIS collection of pupil data
Changes to centre-based collection • Looking into ways to simplify LAs ability to amend returned data • Centrally employed – adding fields to online collection for LAs to record the total number/FTE of centrally employed staff • Incorporating results from both MIS and centre-based returns into the summary reports so you can sign off total data at that point
MIS pre-school pupil 2014 • Pilot collection of pre-school data through the pupil census in 2014 • Staff data for same centres still collected through online centre-based returns • Will pilot also collecting staff data in 2015
Benefits of MIS collection • Less duplication if these data are already held in MIS by local authorities. • Should ensure that the data being reported is the data you are seeing on local systems • If we can collect pupil and staff data on all pre-school education centres in your LA, no need for online centre-level collection
Over to you… • Any issues with centre-level collection that we could change for next year? • Summary reports? • Wording of questions? • Guidance notes? • Collection of all pre-school education data via MIS?
