UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA University of Pretoria’s Web Re-development project Client Service Centre September 2013
Context • The University of Pretoria’s web CMS and platform is eight years old and is considered to be a risk. • A decision was made to redesign and develop the website in order to improve the University’s international visibility and positioning. • A tender process was followed and iGroup has been awarded the contract. The new website will be hosted off site (three countries). • A six month hand over period with the current service provider, MediaPS (Emmerentia and team) commenced on 1 September. • The time line for the new development has been compressed to attain an improvement in the July 2014 Webometrics. • Improvements are being made to the current website to attempt an improvement for the January 2014 Webometrics.

Content ownership / Quality control • Content revision and updating is required before content migration takes place in March 2013. • Identification of outdated content and content gaps is critical to prevent poor quality content from being migrated. • Additional resources will be allocated to assist web masters to update content on the current site and to facilitate the write up of content that is currently not available. • All Faculties and Support Service departments need to take ownership of the quality and relevance of their content. • Would appreciate the opportunity to give a short presentation at each Faculty’s HOD meeting.
