Many people start smoking because they think it is cool. They think it will get them in with the popular crowd and sometimes it will. Some people smoke because they think smoking is a reflection of status. There is a saying, “if you don’t smoke, you are useless.” The better brand you smoke, the higher status you have. Some people smoke because their parents smoke. Parents are role models of children, so if parents smoke their kids will emulate them.
