7th AiReDale Scouts Summer Camp 2013
We will now show a short promotional video showing pictures of previous camps
What is Poacher • An international Scout Camp held every 4 years • Held at Lincolnshire Showground • Open to Scouts and Guides from all over the World • Held from 27 July to 3 August 2013
The Site • Full range of modern marquees, fixed toilet blocks and additional toilets and showers • To ensure the safety and security of all campers the site is fully fenced in with access and egress managed by a security contractor. • a full medical centre on site able to deal with most medical and nursing emergencies that might occur, with strong connections to the local hospital, GP and dental services.
Camp Organisation • Around 3,000 scouts attend the camp • The camp is split into sub camps led by a team of leaders • The sub camp teams aim to provide an exciting environment throughout the week, based around their theme. • There is a central marquee for each sub camp • Each sub camp will be running some inter-unit fun and games just for the units on their sub camp
Programme • Activities • Activities run from Sunday to Friday, usually starting at 10.00hrs through to 12.30hrs, break for lunch and then from 14.00hrs to 16.30hrs. • Climbing/Abseiling • Sub Aqua • Zorb • High Ropes • Shooting • Sailing / Kayaking / Rafting
Programme Activities Plus Many more Action Projects At the heart of Scouting and Guiding are the great outdoors, wildlife and the environment, so we will be running Nature Conservation and Environmental projects
Programme Activity Passport To avoid queuing for ages, and not being herded into zones with the same people everyday, Poacher operates an Activity Passport. That way you know which of these activities you are going to be doing, where it takes place and at what time your session starts.
Programme Evening Entertainment From 7pm to 10pm every evening, there will be themed discos, this will all be set against a festival atmosphere around the venue with live street entertainment. However if you feel the need to get away from it all for a while, the cinema will be showing two films during the day and one each evening.
Camp Fees • Attending an international camp is not a cheap exercise • To help subsidise fees, the group will be organising fundraising activities to help scouts cover the cost of the camp. • The cost to attend will be no more than £200, this includes the camp fee of £150 and approximately £50 to cover food and transport.
Fundraising • We so far are planning the following activities to help raise funds for the camp: • Bag packing – 8 December – this can raise around £10 an hour • Sponsored walk (February or March) – details to be confirmed • Other activities to be confirmed – if you have any suggestions, please let us know.
Paperwork There is a letter with details to be collected tonight. Please return the reply slip by 25 November. If your child is wishing to attend then we will need a £40 deposit with the form so that we can book on the camp and start to arrange logistics. The camp website www.poacher2013.org.uk
