The Great CommissionMatthew 28 1v 18-20 Siaa Liane Mathurin June 2014
Importance of the Great Commission • Before ascension Jesus issued what has come to be called a Commission to his disciples • Last recorded personal directive of the Saviour • Foundation for Evangelism and cross-cultural missions work in Christian theology
Jesus’s expectation of us • Though given directly to the disciples it was given indirectly to us • Jesus’s Marching orders to the church • Expectation of us in Jesus’s physical absence • Not a suggestion but a definite requirement
Disciples took the Lord’s command seriously • Went out into the world and shared the gospel of Jesus • Thousands and Thousands were saved by the grace of GOD • Message was so powerful and witness was so effective
Some facts about the modern Church • 95% of Christians have never won a soul for Christ • 80% of Christians do not consistently witness for Christ • Less than 2% involved in ministry of evangelism
Four reasons why we must obey the Great Commission • We have a Divine Mandate • We have a Divine Message • We have a Divine Mission • We have a Divine Mentor
Divine mandate • Jesus requires us to GO - take action • Jesus requires us to - Look at our own lifestyle • Jesus requires us to Share our Faith
Divine Message • “to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you….” • By his death and resurrection Jesus opened the way of eternal salvation for all who receive HIM into their hearts • Jesus came to this world as the saviour of men • Jesus achieved every purpose He Had
Divine Mission • “Go and Teach all Nations” • “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judeaand in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the world (Acts 1:8)
Divine Mentor • We are Promised HIS presence • “Lo, I am with you always.” • He will help you say what you want to say when the witnessing opportunity presents (Mat 10: 19-20) • We are promised His Power (Acts 1:8)
Conclusion • The Great Commission is not the great suggestion neither should it be the Great omission in our lives. • It is our responsibility our declaration of true obedience to the Father who Gave everything for save our souls • JESUS WANTS YOU TO FINISH WHAT HE BEGAN…….
