Soaring temperatures continued in much of Europe Monday, August 20, as the mercury climbed up to 100F in cities from Vienna to Paris.

A late heat wave engulfed France on Sunday with record temperatures in some parts of the country. In Paris, holiday makers and local residents were flocking to the capital's fountains to cool themselves down. French weather forecaster Meteo France said the heat wave in southwestern France which started Friday was unusual for the time of year as it came late for the season.
