Everest Expedition • Mt. Everest Expedition 8,848 meters is the highest mountain in the world, popularly known as ‘ The Roof of the World ‘. • The name, Everest was given in 1865 to honor Sir George Everest, Surveyor General of India from 1830 – 1843 who first recorded the location of Everest, previously known as ‘Peak XV’. • Mount Everest is located in the Khumbu region of Nepal within the world’s highest National Park i.e. Sagarmatha National Park. • The name of the Mount Everest in Nepal is ‘Sagarmatha’ which literally means ‘Goddess of the Sky’.
