Output Devices. Hard copy is a physical output that can be touched. Eg . Printed Paper Soft copy is a virtual output that resides in the computer. Eg . Files in a folder. Hard Copy and Soft Copy. Two main types of monitors: CRT - Cathode Ray Tube LCD - Liquid Crystal Display.

  3. Two main types of monitors: • CRT - Cathode Ray Tube • LCD - Liquid Crystal Display VIRTUAL DISPLAY UNIT

  5. Takes up less space • Less electricity • Easily transported • Better quality images LCD

  6. Pixels are the amount of dots on a screen. The more pixels the sharper the images. Pixels

  7. Produce hard copies of digital files. Printers

  8. Impact printers put characters on paper by hitting it physically. • Eg. Dot Matrix and Line Printers. • Non Impact print characters on paper by fusing ink onto it. • Eg. Laserjet and inkjet Impact vs Non Impact

  9. Non Impact printers put characters on paper by spraying or using heat or pressure. • Eg. Inkjet or laser Impact vs Non-Impact

  10. Printer that produces characters by striking a ribbon with a print head containing pins. • Quality is determined by the number of pins 9 to 24 Dot Matrix

  11. Contains Nozzles that shoot ink out on the page and dries quickly. • Quality is determined by the amount of dots per inch. DPI. • Average 20 pages per minute Inkjet

  12. Magnetically charged powder that is pressed onto the paper by a heated drum. • Quality measured in DPI. • Very Fast approx. 40 pages per minute. Laser Printer

  14. Plotters • Accurate and precise printing for Major drawings on large sheets of paper. Used in engineering firms for building plans. • Microfilm • Output on a small film that has to be read by a special machine. Used in Libraries, Newspapers, Archives. Other Printers

  15. Sound output is used to gives users a chance to hear sounds. • Used in helping visually impaired. Sound Output
