  2. We aim to produce one episode of eight; of a radio drama that will be aired on woman’s hour at 10:45am and repeated at 7:45pm . Our main storyline focuses on the relationship between a father and his daughter. Aim

  3. Anne is a primary schoolteacher and mother of two. Her mother calls her urgently, about her farther having an accident and how he has broken his hip. Anne resents this as we discover she doesn’t have a good relationship with him. When arriving at his bedside at his home Stan asks Anne to write his memoirs. After agreeing to do this Stan reveals secrets that Anne never imagined he had. Each episode looks at different parts of Stan’s life and helps to build on the relationship between farther and daughter. Proposal

Classroom – ringing bell, noise of children, teacher shouting, footsteps • Bar – phones ringing, background talking, people drinking, chairs moving, laughter, glass • Car – engine starting, door noises, getting in and out of the car • House – doorbell, doors creaking, footsteps, grandfather clock, people going up the stair, TV on and turning off, movements in bed • Flashback – mid 50’s music, sounds that help keep the narrative interesting Sounds

Informing and Entertaining Women • Radio 4 • 30+ Women • Housewives • “Classic and contemporary original drama and book dramatisations” • Editor Jill Burridge says: ‘Forty-two per cent of our audience is male and we have a significant amount of student listeners – 10am is often a wake-up time for them. There are also a lot of young women on maternity leave who want the company and stimulation of a programme which informs, entertains and challenges them.’ Target Audience

  7. Radio 4 • Weekday’s 10-11am, Saturdays 4-5pm • First 45minutes of the show consists of reports, interviews, education, debates and cultural and political topics that are aimed at women and mothers. • Last 15 minutes consist of a drama Woman’s Hour

Woman’s hour • Radio 4 • Murder of the parents daughter and how they are coping • Very simple but interesting story • Well acted – good interaction between the characters – can tell whos who easily – can tell if they are in the background • Not many sounds – footsteps, phone calls, answering phone • Narrator – police woman – helps story to move forward A Small Town Murder

Auchestral Intro • Noices – car door, phone, diary, cow, oven • Quite upbeat fiendly has same themes as ‘Emmerdale’ • Emotions a bit over the top – e.g. tuting and sighing • Have to have lisetenid before to understand the story • Each scene around 2/3 minutes long • Every day lives – going to work, cooking dinner • Each scene is normally between two characters • Every character has a distinct voice and personality to tell them apart form each other Archers – Henry’s Coming Home

Woman’s hour • Catherin compares her life to her mothers and feels down • Diary narrative • Dying of cancer – downbeat and dark • About coping with old age and its illnesses that it brings • Letter form her mother – flashback about her dad going crazy from war • Cherishes her visits from Becca • Again not more than two characters in each scene lasting about 2/3minutes each.   16. Afternoon Reading • Post apocalyptic scene • Narrative upbeat – sounded like a children’s story • Emily goes shopping for Chris • Tempo keeps changing from upbeat to downbeat • All narrative • Basically about their struggles in this new world Travelling Light - Shopping

Radio 7 • Robert Neville – last man on Earth against vampires • All narration – American • Like an audio book • Trying to find a cure for this curse • Same pace throughout • Religious views – scared of the cross • Torments of being alone by yourself • Atmospheric music at the end of the episode but none anywhere else I am Legend – Episode 6

  18. Monologue – female actress • Descriptions of the surroundings and flat are very good • Narrator describes a girl in a lot of detail Afternoon Reading (ES)

Story – starts with music and a narrator taking about her husband’s funeral • Flashbacks to when she was younger with her husband – loads of flashbacks • Forgotten most of her life but remembers her most valuable memories. • Alzheimer’s disease • 50’s music • In an old peoples home • Characters –individual, old • Sounds – ‘Bargain Hunt’ on tv – music from early 30’s and 40’s – used in flashbacks returning back to the era. We aim to achieve an original and entertaining 14minute radio drama that reaches out to females aged 30 and over • Dealing with real life issues such as relationships between family members • This would be aired between the hours of 10:45am and repeated at 7:45pm during the ‘Woman’s hour’. • Studio 1 booked out for Monday 7th February 11am – 6pm • Actors booked for the same time Conclusion
