God's Calling • Romans 6:15-17 • 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.
God's Calling • In this new covenant the Spirit changes us. We now live under the law of the Spirit instead of under the law of sin and death.
God's Calling • Romans 8:1-4 • Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
God's Calling • What does this mean for you? • If you are struggling with guilt for sin and are falling into despair, accept the forgiveness of Christ. • If you are ambushed by your shame, let Christ’s grace wash over you. • And if you are stuck in sin and you cannot break out, let the Spirit give you the power to obey God.
