The Higher Education Academy • Where did it come from? • formed in May 2004 • from a merger of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ILTHE), the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN), and the TQEF National Co-ordination Team (NCT). • Funded by grants from the four UK funding bodies, subscriptions from higher education institutions, and grant and contract income for specific initiatives.

  4. Mission: to help institutions, discipline groups and all staff to provide the best possible learning experience for their students. Triple focus • Institutional support - in support of institutional strategies and leading the development of research and evaluation. • National policy - an authoritative and independent voice on policies that influence the student learning experience. • Subject and staff development -  lead, support and inform the professional development and recognition of staff in higher education. Promote good practice and provide quality information, advice and resources.

Subject Centres • Aim to provide discipline based support for learning and teaching • 24 Subject Centres within the Academy • The Engineering Subject Centre • The Information and Computer Sciences Subject Centre • The Physical Sciences Centre • Funded through the Academy (~£0.5 M p.a.) to July 2009
