  2. RISK ASSESSMENTS Completing a risk assessment is a critical stage in developing a solid business continuity plan. A risk assessment identifies your organisation's risks and the probability of them occurring. Depending on your organisation’s working environment, these risks can include data breaches, natural catastrophes, man-made disasters, or even financial and operational risks. Consider every possible factor that could put your business at risk and evaluate the likelihood of that risk. 1

  3. BUSINESS IMPACT ANALYSIS Another critical step of continuity planning is to perform a business impact analysis (BIA). This will serve as a crafted distillation of your risk assessment and form the foundation of your continuity plan. Your BIA must identify all the essential processes of your organisation and how your business might fare if disrupted. 2

DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN Disaster recovery planning is a component of continuity planning that deals with the recovery of mission-critical assets and operations that have been rendered unworkable or unable to continue as usual.   8. TESTING AND REFINEMENT Remember, employees – including those who might be instrumental in executing your continuity plan could change jobs. IT and Technical environments evolve and change regularly, and new risks will likely emerge regularly. For this reason, you must review, test, and update your plan at least once a year or whenever you make significant changes to essential operations or staffing. 7
