IPDE Process • An organized system of seeing, thinking and responding. • I = Identify • P = Predict • D = Decide • E = Execute • IPDE is a way for you to “read” a certain driving situation so you can deal with it successfully.
What do you need to identify? • Use a visual search pattern to identify the following: • Open and closed zones • Specific clues • Other users • Roadway conditions and features • Traffic controls
What to do you need to Predict? • Use knowledge, judgement, and experience to predict: • Actions of other drivers • Speed • Direction • Control
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions • Decide to use one or more actions to: • Change/Maintain speed • Change/Maintain direction • Communicate with the other driver • Combine Actions when appropriate
