Jewel prices a gallon of milk at $1.29; in Indiana, milk costs $1.89 with taxes; in Schaumburg, it costs $2.13 with taxes, and in Chicago, it costs $2.39. In each location, milk is taxed at a different percentage. Now, what if that gallon of milk was $2.13 no matter where you went in America? I propose that America should go to a proportional national sales tax.America’s current tax system is already regressive with income taxes and progressive with property taxes. In America’s cities, most lower and middle class people cannot afford to buy property due to the purchase price as well as higher income taxes. With a national sales tax, inner city Americans will no longer be penalized for living in the city through the purchase of goods and services. Moreover, the national sales tax can work in favor of lower and middle class citizens. A consistent sales tax would mean that they would pay less for goods. Since they are paying less, Americans would be more inclined to spend more. If consumers spend more money, the economy grows. A growing economy means more jobs, and more opportunities for people to rise to different jobs. Finally, a national sales tax would stop the burden on regional businesses and companies. If the sales tax were the same wherever one goes, then companies would not have to worry about consumers going to another city, county, or state, to purchase a product. Thus, companies would have more control over what makes their product successful. Therefore, in my opinion, I believe a national sales tax is an excellent idea because it would lesson the financial burden on America’s lower and middle classes as well as stimulate the economy.

As a black man in the South who was arrested and kept in jail for no reason for 24 hours, I'd like to suggest a new movement. I think most people know that they can film cops during most situations. I'd really like for those of us who live in fear (and those who don't want to live in fear in the future) to start filming the police as frequently as possible. Make it impossible for them to keep track of those who film them until they expect to be filmed in all situations. Please. God damn I hate cops. PS: I was arrested because my one of my tail lights went out, and the officer thought I was high on "weed". I don't smoke. They let me go. I still have a court date for "reckless driving". Edit: Wow. I did not expect to see this on the front page. I should have added that I'm a WORKING black man. I noticed a few people suggest that I left out some details. Since this was a morning rant, I obviously went a little overboard with the race issue. By the way, this happened in the great state of Mississippi (southern, for all of the accusers). My tail light had been flickering for the past few days, and I was hoping I could make it until pay day (today) to fix it. This week has not been the greatest, and I guess I might have come across as a little douche to the cop, but NOT to the point where I deserved the weed accusation...and eventual arrest. I'd like to not add anymore because this IS the internet...hence, the new username. My point, while suspiciously hyperbolic to those out in internet world, still remains that people should film cops whenever reasonably possible. They are hired to protect, not treat others as anyone different than themselves. Edit: Thank you to those who responded.
