2. English Wolf • Common Name: English Wolf or British Wolf • Scientific Name: English Cannes Lupus • Habitat: Low temperature zones in Scotland and England • Why did it go extinct? The campaign to extinguish all wolves in the country was begun by Edward the First in 1281.
He decided personally to order the employment of Peter Corbet and gave him instructions” to take and destroy all the wolves he could find”, especially in the counties of “Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worchestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire”. In Scotland, a wilder less populous country, the wolves survived until the 17th century, albeit persecuted all the way to extinction.

4. Dodo • Common Name: Dodo • Scientific Name: Raphuscucullatus • Habitat: Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. This was the dodo's only home. • Why did it go extinct? The dodo only lived on one island - Mauritius. When sailors arrived in the sixteenth century they found that the dodo was very easy to catch, and even though it didn't taste very nice, many were eaten.
The dodo's natural habitat was almost completely destroyed after people started settling on Mauritius. And when pigs, cats and monkeys were introduced, they added to the problem by eating the dodo and its eggs.
The last confirmed sighting of a dodo was in 1681 and by the end of the 17th century there were no dodos left.

6. Jaguar • Common Name: Jaguar • Scientific Name: PantheraOnca • Habitat: Costa Rica on the Tortuguero, Santa Rosa, Corcovado and Rio Macho National Parks, and lower levels of Cordillera Talamanca. • Approx. Population: estimated 15000 jaguars (All in Latin America) • Threats: It is belived that there are a few hundred jaguars left in Central America. The reason that the jaguar is endangered is deforestation, persecution, and fur trapping. Fur trapping records show that in the 1960's there was an annual slaughter of no fewer then 15,000 jaguars in the Amazon alone. • Measures to Save it: Laws against hunting jaguars and protect the zones in which they live.

8. Red Panda • Common Name: Red Panda • Scientific Name: Ailurusfulgens • Habitat: The red panda shares the giant panda's rainy, high-altitude forest habitat, but has a wider range. Red pandas live in the mountains of Nepal and northern Myanmar (Burma), as well as in central Chin • Approx. Population: 10,000 Red Pandas in the World. And 2,500 in the Wild. • Threats: Red pandas are endangered, victims of deforestation. Their natural space is shrinking as more and more forests are destroyed by logging and the spread of agriculture. • Measures to Save it: Protect the areas in which they live. Make laws to protect their habitat.
