Roles and Responsibilities • Support Rising Stars Schools in Area 11 in the Standards-Based Change Process. • Attend all grade level meetings. • Attend all Literacy Leadership Team meetings. • Provide PD, coaching, and modeling based on schools’ needs. • Liaise between schools and SchoolRise. • Support all Area 11 and District-wide Initiatives & Competitions and Contests. • Provide Area-wide Professional Development. Goals for the Standards-Based Change Process • Improved student learning and achievement. • Teacher leadership and capacity built. • Internal accountability. • School-wide assessment system created and instituted. • Standards, curriculum, and assessments aligned to high level thinking. • Coherent curriculum across grade levels (Staircase Curriculum). • Develop a literacy curriculum. • Build infrastructure and norms to support change. Ways to Achieve Excellence in the Standards-Based Change Process • Create a school-wide philosophy about teaching, learning, and literacy. • Craft the vision of the graduating 8th grader. • Develop grade level benchmarks aligned to standards. • Translate benchmarks into “I Can” statements. • Create an evidence system with procedures for collecting and rubrics for scoring student products. • Share results 3x yearly with professional learning community. • Improve instruction to focus on moving students forward.
