Issues • Different vendors are targeting their product releases to different implementations of the same standard, • Different vendors are selecting different options of the same standard.
Considerations • Develop a common interoperability requirements to reduce non-interoperability among the vendors, • Increase the ability of service providers to link their IP related projects into end to end solutions.
Solution aHIT!
IMTCApplications on Harmonized Interoperable IP TelephonyaHIT! Formed in November, 1999 within IMTC as an Activity Group: To promote, facilitate the deployment and implementation of seamless, reliable and secure interoperable IP Telephony and Multimedia applications across multiple networks serving the needs of customers worldwide utilizing international, open standards and technical specifications.
aHIT! Charter To identify and document interoperability requirements for service providers and vendors for IP Telephony and Multimedia applications. Service Providers will reduce standards incompatibility when dealing with multiple vendors; Vendors will gain commercially viable interoperability with other vendors.
aHIT! Goals • Develop and publish interoperability technical requirements documents for VoIP and MM applications and interoperability for different inter-working scenarios, e.g. SIP/H.323, etc. • Encourage, define and participate global VoIP and MM applications trials between member service providers and vendors, • Provide a forum for open technical exchange • Support, promote and participate at IMTC/ETSI testing events.
aHIT! Activitiesfor 2000 • Billing & Authentication/Authorization/Accounting • FoIP • Internet Call Waiting • Audio Conferencing identified as VoIP applications and • Interoperability for SIP/H.323 inter-working for the above applications approved to develop Interoperability Requirements Documents by December 2000.
