Japanese Internment • After Pearl Harbor, people questioned Japanese loyalty. • Anyone of Japanese race or ancestry were moved to internment camps.
Manhattan Project • Started to build the bomb • The project was created to experiment with nuclear power, after Einstein sent a letter to President Roosevelt warning him that the Germans are already experimenting with nuclear power. • Highly expensive.
Guerilla Warfare • Originated in the American Civil War • Used as a “hit and run” surprise attack • Usually formed by unskilled men. • Japanese used Guerilla Warfare in World War II.
Harry Truman • Became President after the death of President Roosevelt • Made the ultimate decision to drop the atomic bomb • Worked with Winston Churchill to make the decision to drop the bomb • He decided to drop the bomb to save lives and shorten the war
Pearl Harbor • In this attack, the types of planes used were the Zero Fighter, Val Dive Bomber, and Kate Torpedo. • The tactic used was to attack planes then ships.
Pearl Harbor Continued • The attack was on a Sunday morning and successfully destroyed the U.S. naval fleet. • This attack made the U.S. neglect their isolationism policy and enter the war.
Hideki Tojo • Led Japan into WWII and planned the attack of Pearl Harbor. • He was tried as a war criminal and was found guilty and was executed.
Island Hopping • Strategy used by the Allies in WWII • military tactic • conquer an island, build a military base there and move on to next island to conquer
Hiroshima/Nagasaki • Bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th • and on Nagasaki on August 9th • first time atomic bomb was used • about 200,000 dead and later more would die due to radiation
