  7. Kelsey Taylor Kelsey Taylor, CWEP is the owner of A Tale of Two People Events. Her experience in the event industry began in Houston with The Chefs' Daughter Catering as an assistant caterer. She moved to College Station, Texas in 2008 to attend Texas A&M University, where she was the head manager of the local-favorite fine dining restaurant "La Riviera." While at that position, she found that what she enjoyed the most was handling the private parties and events that were held there, and she knew that she wanted to once again pursue opportunities in the event industry. In 2012 she relocated to Austin, Texas where she received her certification through Lovegevity's Wedding and Event Planning course. Kelsey's vision can be summed up by A Tale of Two People’s mission statement: "We believe that every couple has a story - a tale, of two people. Out goal is to make sure your event conveys your individual tale in a unique and memorable way. The world is made up of stories - we're going to tell yours.“

  8. Blog Post – WHEN should I have my Wedding? Sometimes a bride has no choice on the time of year of her marriage.  She might have to fit it in between school semesters or deployment overseas – a job change or having a family member in a state of illness may require a hurried wedding.  Barring any of these constraints, most brides have always envisioned a certain type of wedding and the time of year it takes place, like an autumn wedding with fall colors or a summer wedding on the beach.  If you have flexibility and no preconceived “must-have” time of the year, consider all of your options.  Sometimes you can save a LOT of money and/or hassle just by changing the time of year. Having your wedding during the less popular months of the year like October through April (the so-called “off-season” of weddings) can make a world of difference in being able to have your wedding planner of choice, book your venue, save money on vendors, reserve flights/hotels for honeymoon, get alterations on a wedding gown, reserve places for pre-wedding parties, etc. Many halls, caterers, and other wedding service providers will often give you a discount if you hold your wedding during their slow season when they have far fewer bookings.    Conversely, trying to get that special hall or facility or caterer during the peak season, June for instance, may be quite difficult.  It  can also create headaches you might not foresee.  With all of the bridal gowns being ordered in January and picked up in June, you stand a chance of not having yours ready or it not being exactly right.  Having said that, if you want to be a June bride, and it works for you and your husband to be, go for it.  Your wedding planner can handle this busy time of year so pick one early! As far as picking other times of the year, you might consider a winter wedding if you love the holidays….envision a wedding like my grandmother had in the ‘50’s with the bridesmaids in flowing red velvet dresses, carrying white fur muffs.  Or a fall wedding with the gorgeous colors of the leaves reflected in the wedding party’s attire and the flowers, maybe in a park by a lake with the trees in full color.  How about a springtime wedding in areas where the dogwood blooms and tulips and daffodils abound?  I once catered a wedding a week before Thanksgiving where I put together a buffet of ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, apple walnut salad and rolls and laid it all out with a myriad of pumpkins and fall flowers.  It was beautiful and special as it brought to mind “family” to all of the guests in a special way.

The main things to consider when deciding on time of year: Job/school constraints, vacation time Health/allergies of BTB and G Ability to travel for wedding guests (if you live in icy/wintry area of country or guests do) Destination weddings:  what is prettiest time of year?  Hurricanes?  Blizzards?  Monsoon season?  Overcrowded?  Cruise ships filling city with people? Price of facility during different times of year Time to have wedding gown made and altered Types of fresh flowers available and affordable Health of bridal party/families Day of Week: Whatever time of year you decide on, you must also decide on the Time of Week.  What day?  Some facilities give discounts for Friday nights.  Or you might be able to get it for a Friday night and not for a Saturday.  What day do you want to leave on your honeymoon?  Will the flight be cheaper on a Sunday or a Monday?  What about your wedding guests – will they be able to get off work and make the travel arrangements so they can be at your wedding on the day you’ve picked?  Will they be able to get back home to get back to work?  Is it a school day?  Will the caterer charge you less if you book on a Friday night?  Consider all options!! Time of Day: When picking the time of the ceremony and reception, consider: How formal do you want it to be?  If you pick 2:00 in the afternoon, people will not expect it to be full formal event.  If you pick 7:00 in the evening, they will assume it is formal.  A more formal wedding generally requires more elaborate floral arrangements, long evening gowns, plated reception food, etc.

  10. Blog Post – WHEN should I have my Wedding? How expensive/elaborate do I want the food to be?           If you wish to have cake/nuts, coffee and punch (no buffet and no sit down meal), you’ll want to pick a time between lunch and dinner, say about 2:00 to 4:00.  A simple sit-down brunch would be perfect, and less costly in both venue and food, with a 9:00 to 11:00 am wedding.  Another beautiful reception would be an all-desserts buffet after a later evening wedding, like 7:30-8:00.  When am I leaving on my honeymoon?           Do you have a long flight to Hawaii?  If so, you might be staying your wedding night nearby and catching an early morning flight the next day.  In that case, a late afternoon or evening wedding could work very well.  But if you’re catching a flight that same day, you have to make sure you have ample time to enjoy the ceremony and reception and make the rounds of all your guests before having to leave for the airport.     Where am I having the ceremony/reception?           Is there ample lighting if outdoors - will the ceremony or reception last into the dark hours?  Will it turn cold once the sun goes down?  Does it get really foggy after dark in that area?  Will my guests be toasted lobsters by the time the wedding is done?  How will my photography look in the bright sunshine? How far are guests traveling?           If you have many guests traveling by car, it might be considerate to allow them time to drive to the wedding and back home in one day, with no nighttime driving or overnight expenses.  This is particularly true if you have elderly guests who will be making the drive.  If some are traveling by plane, a later afternoon wedding is a must. It’s a lot to consider, but your wedding planner can help you pick the best time of year, week and day for your ceremony and reception.  Sometimes it’s simply dictated by weekends available!  Sometimes it’s the weather and sometimes it’s the honeymoon plans.  Any time can be a wonderful time, as long as you consider all of the factors.  And if you can save money and still be thoroughly happy with your wedding, go for it!
