The Giving Garden • ~1,300 sq ft • Run entirely by volunteers • Pesticide-Free, Fresh 100% Organic Produce • Entire Harvest goes to Hopelink-Shoreline • Becoming a Community gathering place for local neighborhood activities • Partnering with local Middle Schools to provide Service Learning Hours

  3. Our Success • 2012 – Donated nearly 800 lbs • 2013 – Donations in excess of 1,400 lbs That equates to the veggie portion of 3,400 Adult Meals or8,500 Child Meals!!!

  4. Our Challenge: Shallow Soil & Poor Drainage • Beds aren’t raised • High Water Table • Crowded roots = Poor Harvest • Raised Beds Yield Up To 2x Harvest Beet

  5. Remedy: Raise Garden Beds 12” What This Accomplishes • Increases Yield by 50-100%. • Helps us provide sustainable harvests, year after year. NEEDS • Lumber • 10’ 2x6x64 • 14’ 2x6x16 • Soil • 27 cu yd of Cedar Grove Veggie Garden Mix • Delivered: $1,050 • 16’ 2x6x 6 • 8’ 4x4x28 • Total: $850 • Volunteers • Day 1: 4 Posthole Diggers & Setters 4-5 hrs • Day 2: 4-6 Cordless Drill’ers 5-6 hrs • Day 3: 6-8 Wheelbarrows & Spades 3-4 hrs • When: Late February – Early March 2014 • Hardware • 5 lbs 20dgalvanized spiral nails • 5 lbs 3” treated wood screws • Total: $65

  6. Why Donate To Us? • Shoreline Population: • 5.7% Unemployed • 10.0% Under Poverty Level • Great Recession • <6% unemployment. Many of employed are under-employed or multiple min wage jobs • Poor Nutrition hampers ability to pull oneself out of poverty. • This Donation Keeps On Giving, Year After Year
