  2. HOW WIDE-SPREAD IS IT?

MVCC CARES • We need to help you help yourself and your friends. • The H1N1 is not as severe as originally thought. • It is however, spreading earlier than the seasonal flu because schools and colleges are in session. • This is not meant to scare you, but to inform you of facts and to help you take precautions.

  4. IT IS DIFFERENT THAN THE SEASONAL FLU AND THE NORMAL FLU SHOT HAS NO AFFECT ON IMMUNITY FROM IT.

  5. THOSE AT GREATEST RISK ARE: • Pregnant women • People who care for young children • Individuals up to 24 years old • Anyone with underlying Health Conditions such as Asthma, Pulmonary Disease or Auto-Immune Disorders • Elderly – over 65

  6. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE: • Fever or chills • Cough or sore throat • Runny nose • Headache, body aches • Fatigue • Diarrhea or vomiting

  7. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF • Eat balanced meals – EAT RIGHT! • Rest and get enough sleep even when you feel good • Practice good, common sense hygiene habits • Sneeze in the crook of your arm • Use tissues and dispose of properly • Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands

  8. Transmission • Spread by droplet with cough or sneeze • Spread by touching surfaces contaminated by droplets and then touching your eyes, nose, mouth • Incubation period is 1‐7 days • Illness lasts 4‐5 days with 2‐3 days of fever • Can spread the virus up to 7 days

HOW TO AVOID GETTING SICK - IT’S WHAT YOU LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently • Avoid sharing eating and drinking utensils • Clean your living and working area – keyboards, faucet handles, remote controls, door knobs etc. • Hand sanitizer units are available throughout campus and in the Residence Halls

  10. MVCC FLU/H1N1 HOT LINE • 792-5389 ext. 4555 • This will help us keep track of absenteeism and the prevalence of the flu on our campus. • Instructors will be notified of absences.
