Talked about user experience and design. • Briefly looked at Common Look and Feel and the new Usability template. • Drupal 7 theming. Why do we theme? What benefits are associated with separating the visual and business layer? • Drupal 7 templates files (tpl), stylesheets, and available documentation. • Group assignment: Begin work on the design for your site. Convert to Drupal if time is available. • Group presentations: Show off your new design. • Possible work term placements at Statistics Canadaand Treasury Board with a Drupal migrationand user interface work, respectively. • Week 4 Review

Week 5 • why? • To make internet a better place, for both developers and visitors, it is important that both browsers and web developers follow the web standards. • Developers • When developers follow the Web standards, the development is simplified, since it is easier for a developer to understand another’s coding. • Browser Display • Will ensure that all browsers will display your web site properly, without time-consuming rewrites. • Search Engines • Easier for search engines to access and index, easier to convert to other formats, and easier to access with program code (Javascript) • Accessibility • Allow people with disabilities to access web content using assistive-technologies. www.opin.cachris.smith@opin.ca (613) 851-7102 126 York Street, Office 300, Ottawa

  11. Week 2 • groupwork • Choose Website • In your group, pick a website that you would like to evaluate for HTML, CSS, and WCAG compliance. Teams of 3. Assignment should take 1 hour followed by presentations. Validate HTML, CSS Validate WCAG Validate Validate Validate the HTML, CSS for your website. Record the number of errors, and take notes on a few problems. Validate your website against the WCAG standards. Determine which standards pass, fail, or are non-applicable. Write notes to explain the failures.
