Founded in 2004, Global Brigades works to improve the quality of life in under resourced communities by leveraging the skill, knowledge, and passion of students and professionals. Mission To empower volunteers to facilitate sustainable solutions in under resourced communities while fostering local cultures. Public Health Brigades Volunteers spend 7 days in Honduras, improving basic home infrastructure and providing health education to help reduce the incidences of preventable diseases in a rural community. Volunteers work side-by-side with community members and local masons. They construct five in-home infrastructure projects meant to improve health and hygiene: eco-stoves, latrines, pilas (water storage units), showers and concrete floors. Additionally, volunteers collaborate with the Basic Sanitation Committee and local teachers to help provide community-wide education workshops and training, proliferating sanitation and hygiene practices and empowering families with both the knowledge and tools to live healthier lives.
