  1. Byzantium and the World Byzantine Empire between large empires in Europe and Asia. Large struggle with Persians weakened both empires, but it was Byzantine that held out for longer (until conquered by the Turks in the 15th and 16th century. Byzantium Empire central player in long-distance trade, with many commercial links. Byzantium’s coin, the Bezant used as a major trade currency in the Mediterranean for 500yrs. Byzantium produced many luxury products, and they had skilled craftsmen.

  2. The Conversion of Russia Orthodox Christianity made huge advances into Russia and Ukraine. Before prince Vladmir decided his religion, there were many religions in the modest empire of Kievan Rus. Vladmir considered affiliating with many religions, but rejected Islam due to it’s prohibition on alcohol. KievanRus preserved the religion and knowledge of the Byzantine Empire. KievanRus was proclaimed the “Third Rome”
