  2. Governor Steve Beshear • The governor is the chief executive officer (CEO) of a state. His responsibilities mirror the responsibilities of the President of the United States, but on a smaller scale. • A governor is responsible for running the state government, he/she is in charge of the National Guard for his/her state, is responsible for enforcing state laws, signs legislation to make it effective or vetoes it, etc.

  3. Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson • Oversees the state Senate, serves on state boards and takes over if the governor cannot serve. • Elected separately from the governor to a four-year term, the lieutenant governor is first in line to succeed if the governor leaves the state, is incapacitated, is removed from office or dies.

  4. Representative Keith Hall A state representative helps people and tries to move society forward and also tries to make society a better place for all people to live in. 1. Vote on laws. 2. Assist people with constituent services. 3. Try to improve the communities they represent. 4. Protect the taxpayers money by making sure tax dollars are spent on education, affordable housing, reasonable transportation, fire and police protection, etc.

  5. Senator  Ray S. Jones • Kentucky is divided into 38 Senate Districts of equal population. Each District elects 1 Senator to represent the District in Frankfort. The Senate is responsible for passing bills that are sent to the Governor to be signed into law. • Both the House of Representatives and the Senate must agree on a bill before it can be sent to the Governor for him to sign into law. • Senators are elected to 4 year terms and your State Senator is Ray Jones (31st District).

  7. Supreme Court • The Supreme Court of Kentucky is the court of last resort and the final interpreter of state law. It consists of seven justices who are elected from the seven appellate districts and serve eight-year terms. The Chief Justice of the Commonwealth is chosen by his or her colleagues and serves a term of four years.

  8. Supreme Court • After a decision by the Supreme Court of Kentucky, a case can only be appealed to the United States Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is also responsible for establishing rules of practice and procedures for the Court of Justice, which includes the conduct of judges and attorneys.

  9. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Mission • "To provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound and fiscally responsible transportation system that delivers economic opportunity and enhances the quality of life in Kentucky."

  10. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is an executive branch agency responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of a safe, efficient multi-modal transportation system throughout the Commonwealth.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet • The Cabinet manages more than 27,000 miles of highways, including roughly 20,500 miles of secondary roads, 3,600 miles of primary roads, and more than 1,400 interstate and parkway miles. The cabinet also provides direction for 230 licensed airports and heliports and oversees all motor vehicle and driver's licensure for more than three million drivers in the Commonwealth.

Kentucky State Police • The Kentucky State Police promotes public safety through service, integrity, and professionalism utilizing partnerships to: • Prevent, reduce, and deter crime and the fear of crime. • Enhance highway safety through education and enforcement. • Safeguard property and protect individual rights.
