What is a “tag?” A tag is a descriptive term used to classify information. In the catalog, librarians and customers use tags to make it easier to find materials on certain topics or in different genres.
First….. • Go the catalog on the library’s website: www.cuyahogalibrary.org
Next….. Figure out what kind of book you want to find. If you’re looking for a certain topic or genre type it in the search box.
Then….. • Refine your search using the facets on the left side of the screen.
An example… I’m looking for a Teen historical fiction book. FIRST – I type “historical fiction” in the catalog search box. NEXT – I use the facets on the left side of the screen to narrow my results to only the tagged teen books.
An example….. • Narrow the results to Teen Materials by clicking “All Teen Materials” under Collection.
An example….. • Now narrow the results to only the tagged items under Tag.
An example… That’s it! You’re done! Your search has now been refined to show only the Teen items that have been tagged as “historical fiction.”
Some advice… • Tags are VERY useful, but remember that anyone with a library card can tag something. Be sure to double-check that your book really is a specific genre. • SUBJECT TERMS are a great way to double- check!
Cool tags… • Audio review • Listen to a review from a CCPL librarian! • Youth buzz • Staff picks for great under the radar titles!
