  1. Newton’s Laws Assessment Mrs. Anna Ward James Martin MS

  2. DO NOW!!! • Using F=ma, solve the following problems: • Ms. Johnson shut her door with a force of 15 N. If the door weighs 30 kg, what is the acceleration? • Jayda slid her lunch tray down the table at 0.5 m/s2. If the tray weighs .01 kg, what force did she apply? • Atif rolled a rock across his yard. If the rock accelerated at .25 m/s, and he applied a force of 10 Newtons, what did the rock weigh?

  3. Announcements • Test today • Notebook Check on Friday

  4. Agenda • Today you will be working on an assignment to be finished by the end of class that will be graded as evidence of your comprehension of Newton’s Laws. • You will also have a short test during the last 25 minutes of class. • These two assignments will be added up to one test grade. • Organizer: 50 points • Test: 50 points

  5. Newton’s Laws Organizer • This will be a booklet that you organize material related to Newton’s Laws. You can use a textbook or notes if needed. Supplies will be provided. • Use your time wisely. It is due by the end of class and it will be graded for completion. I will not give you any additional time to complete it. • Follow the directions provided in the handout. Do not write on my handout.

  6. Newton’s Laws Organizer • Front Page…Draw or attach a print out of Sir Isaac Newton. Include title and your name. • Page 2: Blank • Page 3: Newton Biography • Page 4: State Newton’s 1st Law of Motion. Include at least one example & Illustration. • Page 5: State Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion. Include at least one example & Illustration. • Page 6: State Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion. Include at least one example & Illustration. • Page 7: Write a paragraph describing what Newton’s laws mean to you and why they are important. • Page 8: Leave blank

  7. Exit Ticket • Newton’s Laws are about _______________. • Motion • Acceleration • Speed • Velocity • What is inertia? • The relationship of three things are described in Newton’s Second Law? • Newton’s third law states that for every action, there is ___________________________. • Using F=ma, what would be the force needed to accelerate a 10 kg box at 4m/s₂?
