  3. MOISTURE IN LUMBER • GREEN - Moisture content of tree when cut is 30%. • PARTIALY AIR DRIED (PAD) - Stocked for air drying ranging from 2 weeks to 2 years (redwood) 15-30%. • KILN DRIED (KD) - Dried in a kiln 5-19% depending on use.

  4. EQUILIBRIUM • The point where wood neither gains or loses water. • Moisture content is equal with the surrounding atmosphere. • Interior use in the Northeast is 5-10%. • Exterior use in the Northeast is 19%.

INSTALLING BEVEL SIDING • Minimum overlap is not less than 1 inch. • Upper edge of the previous one by a minimum of 1 inch. • Bevel siding should be face nailed to studs with 1 ½ in. penetration into solid wood. • Place nail just above the 1 in. overlap. • Take care not to nail through the overlap of two pieces. • Butt joints between boards should be staggered and made on studs. • Ends should be caulked.

  32. DECKING INSTALLATION TIPS 1. BOARDS SHOULD BE GAPPED AT LEAST 1/4” TO ALLOW FOR PROPER VENTILATION.
