Reminders for the 2009 Administration • CMA for Writing was administered for the first time. • CST & CMA for Writing administration dates: March 3 and May 5 • CMA will be administered in grades 3–8 • -English-Language Arts • -Mathematics (grades 3–7 only) • -Science (grades 5 & 8 only)

Standard Setting • The purpose is to collect recommendations for the placement of cut scores. • Cut scores determine performance levels (far below basic, below basic, basic, and advanced). • Approval by the State Board of Education (SBE) is required.
CMA Standard Setting • Fall 2008: grades 3–5 • ELA • Mathematics • Science (grade 5 only) • CMA cut scores were adopted by the SBE in November 2008. • Results by performance level for these content areas and grade levels will be reported in 2009.
STS Standard Setting • February 2009: grades 2–4 • Reading/Language Arts (RLA) • Mathematics • Three public hearings will be conducted • Santa Clara (March 26) • San Diego County of Office (March 26) • CDE, Sacramento (May 6) • The SBE will consider for adoption cut scores at its May Meeting. • Results by performance level for these content areas and grade levels will be reported in 2009.
Future Standard Settings • CMA (grades 6-8) • ELA, grades 6–8, September 23–25 • Mathematics, grades 6–7, September 30–October 2 • Science, grade 8, September 30–October 2 • Currently recruiting special education members with mathematics, reading/language arts, or science expertise in grades 5 through 9. • STS (grades 5-7) • RLA October 21–23 • Mathematics October 28–30 • Currently recruiting bilingual and biliterate members with mathematics or reading/language arts expertise in grades 4 through 8. • Interested applicants are still needed. Assessment Review Panels STS Assessment Review Panels consist of: • Bilingual and biliterate members with mathematics or reading/language arts expertise, some of whom serve on both the STS and CST panels to ensure consistency and rigor. • Members who can assist in analyzing content standards • Interested applicants are still needed.
