Palacký University The city of Olomouc • 5th biggest city in Czech Republic, ~ 100 thousand inhabitants • valuable historical town centre, listed in UNESCO • a typical university town Palacký University of Olomouc • founded 1573, second oldest university in the Czech Republic • 8 faculties, ~ 22 thousand students • One of top five universities in the Czech Republic Department of Geology • founded 1946, but mineralogical education dates back to 1747 • affiliated at the Faculty of Science • a small-scale department, ~ 12 mbrs. of academic staff + PhD students • located in a new building (2009) very close to city centre www.geology.upol.cz
