This program, led by Casey Davis and Lisa Hatfield, integrates physical fitness with geography education, promoting movement and academic engagement. With only 8% of US schools offering daily physical education, this innovative approach focuses on enhancing fitness levels and geographical knowledge simultaneously. By combining fitness circuits with learning about the geography of North Carolina, students develop a deeper understanding of key concepts while staying active. Through structured activities, such as the Spark Fitness Circuit and the Geography Fitness Circuit, students engage in physical movement while learning about major landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources in North Carolina. This integrated approach supports academic goals in social studies and health, emphasizing the importance of valuing physical activity and promoting teamwork. Accommodations are provided for diverse learners, ensuring that all students can participate and benefit from the program. Assessment methods include self-assessment activities and take-home fitness journals to track progress and encourage continued engagement beyond the classroom. By prioritizing both physical fitness and academic content, this Geography Fitness Circuit initiative aims to get kids moving, learning, and thriving in North Carolina schools.
