  2. Actions for Governments Make evaluation of key trade and environment issues at national level, their overlaps, your policy making needs. Address this in task in a multistakeholder, participatory mode – make the most of existing capacity. Policy research institutes, business in the key trade sectors, and NGOs are potentially important partners. Strengthen South-South cooperation Economics and Trade Branch

Capacity Building on Environment, Trade and Development UNEP Workshop, 19-20 March • Objectives of the workshop • Stocktaking on the various capacity building activities (IGOs, NGOs, bilateral) on T, E & D • Identify gaps, complementarities and potential collaborators • Develop concrete proposals for enhancing delivery of capacity building….. • ….to attract more financial support for these activities Economics and Trade Branch

Capacity Building on Environment, Trade and Development UNEP Workshop, 19-20 March • Key findings of the workshop • Insufficient atttention given to needs assessment • Need more “learning by doing” activities • Place greater emphasis on institution building at at national and regional levels… • ….including by initiating more coordinated, collaborative projects (eg with WTO, regional and sub-regional institutions and NGOs) Economics and Trade Branch

  6. Actions for Governments Build trade, environment and development policy coordination and integration….. ….in both capitals and the regional mechanisms – eg CEFTA. Approach donors with draft proposals for capacity-building on trade, environment and development, related to specific and immediate policy challenges. Submit proposals to UNEP-UNCTAD CBTF (www.unep-unctad.org/cbtf). Economics and Trade Branch
