GS1 Certification & Accreditation Programmes October 2014 Rome Standards Event
Session Overview • Session material is important to: • Member Organizations • Supply Chain End Users • GDSN Certified Data Pools • GS1 Source Data Aggregators • RFID Solution Providers • GLN Service Local Registry Operators • Will cover: • GS1 Certification & Accreditation Programmes • Current and Future
GS1 Certification & Accreditation Programmes • Provides confidence to GS1 member companies and key stakeholders that services, products and devices are conformant to GS1 Standards • Confirms that services, products and devices are interoperable across user communities, platforms and devices
GS1 Certification & Accreditation Programmes • Executed by appointed independent Certification Agents • Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) • Certification of Data Pools for participation in the GDSN • Administered by Drummond Group • GS1 EPCglobal Capabilities • 3 Programmes administered by MET Laboratories • Certification of RFID Hardware Devices • Software Solutions • Accreditation of Test Labs for EPC/RFID Capabilities • GS1 Source Framework • Certification of Data Aggregators to participate in the GS1 Source framework • Administered by MET Laboratories
GDSN Data Pool Certification Programme • Provides assurance that each Certified Data Pool can provide for secure and continuous synchronization of item data at the same time using standards and message choreography that are conformant to GDSN Standards and Message Choreographies • DPs much successfully demonstrate: • Initial DP Certification: • Technical connectivity via AS2 Protocol • Standards and Interoperability conformance (message orchestration) • Annual DP Audit • Technical Performance – Using current versions of certified AS2 products • Third Party Security Audit – Required every 2 years • Legal compliance – Adherence to DP Contracts (GRALA / TPA) • Implementation and Operational Performance adherence • Re-certification for Major network releases to introduce new functionality or material changes
EPC Certification / Accreditation Programmes 3 Programmes: • GS1 EPCglobal Software Certification • Conformance to GS1 EPCglobal standards – Software Application conformance to EPCglobal Specifications within supply chain solutions (i.e. Track and Trace Solutions, Pedigree Solutions) • GS1 EPCglobal Hardware Conformance & Interoperability • Certification of RFID Devices (Tags, Readers, Printers) • Conformance Testing – Device conformance to the EPCglobal Specification • Interoperability Testing – Ability of a RFID Tag to interoperate with a RFID Reader or with a RFID Printer • Provides supply chain End Users with confidence that RFID tags can be deployed and fulfill a number of key performance criteria, such as a high read rate and interoberability with RFID Readers & Printers
EPC Certification / Accreditation Programmes, cont. • Accredited Test Centers (ATCs) Program • ATC’s are ‘accredited’ on their capability to evaluate RFID tagged unit performance testing in a variety of real-world environments common within the supply chain (i.e. on conveyor belts, at dock doors) • Test Centers/test labs must: • Demonstrate their ability to execute performance testing on RFID tagged units • Have an established Quality Programme (ISO 17025 based) • Demonstrate core technical competencies on RFID technology, EPC Keys, tag placement & command operations, RFID Device operation (RFID Reader, Printer, Spectrum Analyzer)
GS1 Source Certification Programme • GS1 Source Certified Data Aggregators enable the communication of ‘trusted’ brand-owner product data with consumers in the digital, omni-channel world in a simple, efficient and scalable way • GS1 Source Certification focuses on basic and nutritional product information • GS1 Source Certification ensures that Data Aggregator messaging is conformant to the GS1 Source standards and Message Choreographies
GS1 Certification and Conformance ProgrammesIn Progress • EPC: • EPCIS Certification Programme - update for EPCIS v1.1 Standard • Available Q1 CY 2015 • EPC Hardware Certification Programme for RFID Devices to align w/new UHF Gen2 V2 standard • Required ‘conformance’ document under development by work group; • Delivery of updated UHF Gen2 V2 related HW Certification Programmesplanned • Event Based Traceability Certification Programme (Checking Services software solutions) • Date tbd post completion of standards and required conformance documents by the work group • GDSN 3.0 Major Release / Certification Event • Target date(s) for DP Certification – Q2 CY 2015 • GEPIR DQ Conformance (new) • Spot check audits under GS1 MO core service requirements • Aligned with GEPIR 4.0 release • Target date – Q2 CY 2015
GS1 Certification and Conformance ProgrammesAnticipated • GS1 GLN Service certification • Discussions planned once the network matures through participation / utilization • GS1 Source • Health & Beauty Aid standard in development • Date – TBD, pending ratification of standard
