Aim Recap Today we’re continuing with our new topic about ‘power’. In RE you’re looking at ‘Religious leaders’, although at this stage we’re still thinking about what a leader is like. Over to you... Discuss... Was the person in charge a good leader? If so, what made them a good leader? What happened when one of you took over the leadership of the class? Is a good leader according to one person the same as a good leader according to somebody else?
You are communicating, working with others & problem solving… Brainstorm... • You’re going to work in small groups. • Each group is going to nominate a scribe (or a few scribes) to do the writing for your small group. • Each group is going to nominate a team leader, who will make sure that everybody is joining in the discussion. • As a small group you’re going to have 5 minutes to brainstorm all the ideas you have that answer the question… • What makes a good leader? • Use the interviews that you completed for homework to help you.

You are problem solving… Write... - What are the characteristics of a good leader for Wales? • Everybody needs a sheet with the title: ‘What does Wales think makes a good leader?’ • The following extract is on the sheet… • Carwyn Jones – Prif Weinidog Cymru • Carwyn Jones – First Minister for Wales • When Carwyn Jones became the First Minister for Wales in December 2009 he was given the most important leadership position in Wales because of his strong leadership qualities.Friends & colleagues describe Carwyn Jones as somebody who is focused & committed to the Welsh people: “He likes to do a job well.”A good knowledge of his country & his people have also been a quality that has helped Carwyn reach his current leadership position. He is often described by friends as being a confident & enthusiastic man, yet somebody who is also tolerant & patient towards others. “He rarely argues, yet he will stand firm if he believes something is true,” a Welsh Assembly Government colleague noted… • Different people in the class have different tasks to complete, more details are on your sheets…

Take me to your leader… Homework You are developing your ICT skills… • Next lesson we will be applying what we’ve learnt about leadership in today’s lesson to religious leaders. • The religious leaders for Christianity, Islam & Judaism are Muhammad, Abraham & Jesus. Using ‘Google’ to help, match up the correct religious leader to the correct religion & find out 3 facts about each of them.
