Eloi Morlock “There were three circumstances in particular which made me think that its rare emergence above ground was the outcome of a long-continued underground look common in most animals that live largely in the dark – the white fish of the Kentucky caves…those large eyes…and last of all, that evident confusion in the sunshine” (61). “He was a slight creature – perhaps four feet high – clad in a purple tunic, girdled at the waist with a leather belt. Sandals or buskins – I could not clearly distinguish which – were on his feet; his legs were bare to the knees, and his head was bare…a very beautiful and graceful creature, but indescribably frail” (Wells 28).
