Resources trialled @ Northern Beaches TAFE • 30 students enrolled – 16 f2f, 8 gap training f2f, 6 onlineENV & DEL • What got in the way? • Steep learning curve x2 • Lack of research and analysis skills • Complex Toolbox + low ICT skills = #@??@%!!!! • These learners disliked reading on screen • Differences in time and effort between sessions in learner’s guides • Complex evidence requirements for assessment • Revisiting Toolbox pages or videos … haven’t I done this before?
Manage learner expectations • Be specific in describing the skills the learner will need to be successful • Research skills – Analyse and Present Research Information • ICT – broadband, 4 programs open at one time • Language and literacy – if not sure be tested by ESOL • Spend time briefing learner on what the course entails – it’s not like the old Cert IV! • Others….?
Manage the workload (yours and theirs!) • Don’t attempt to do every group elearning activity in each Learner’s guide – use the “individual/distance learning” option as well • Need to estimate the time to spend on sessions in the Learner’s guide • Others….?
