  2. Objectives Welcome! Welcome to your iPad training! We hope to make you feel comfortable using iPads with your students and become skilled at finding the most useful applications. Objective 1: Given access to wireless Internet and an iPad cart, teachers at Salisbury Central should turn on and off their iPad, open and close applications and change their iPad without error. Objective 2: Given access to wireless Internet and an iPad cart, teachers at Salisbury Central should successfully download, open and preview applications. Objective 3: Given access to wireless Internet and an iPad cart, teachers at Salisbury Central should implement one or more lessons per week integrating iPads. Detailed Script Throughout the 2 day iPad training we hope you all can accomplish these objectives. Objective 1: Given access to wireless Internet and an iPad cart, teachers at Salisbury Central should turn on and off their iPad, open and close applications and change their iPad without error. Basics Module 1 Basic skills: -external parts of your iPad -powering on and off -charging iPad -iPad navigation -sound and volume -using onscreen keyboard -connecting to public or home Wifi To understand the external parts of your iPad watchthis video Power on and off: simultaneously press and hold the Power button on the top right edge of the iPad AND the home button at the bottom of the screen. Watch this! To understand how to charge your iPadwatch this video. iPad Navigation: Tap, Double Tap, Swipe, Top, Left Center Right, Bottom, Home Button. What this! Detailed Script Some of you use these basic skills with ease. If you do not, please use the videos provided to brush up on these basic skills. It is important to go over the navigation terminology we will be using during this training. Tap- touch your finger to the screen quickly one time Double Tap- touch your finder to the screen quickly two times Swipe – drag your finger(s) across the screen Top Left – WiFi signal shows whether you are connected to a wireless network or how strong the signal is Top Center – Time Top Right- Battery Power remaining Bottom – white and gray dots indicate how many screens of apps you have. Home Button –wakes up iPad, double press gives you a multi-tasking bar, if an app is open the hoe button will get you to the home screen and taping the home button one time will display the spotlight search screen. Basics Module 1 Basic skills: -external parts of your iPad -powering on and off -charging iPad -iPad navigation -sound and volume -using onscreen keyboard -connecting to public or home WiFi To understand sound and volume of your iPad watch this video Using onscreen Keyboard: There are many short cuts that the onscreen keyboard provides. Need a reminder? Connecting to public or home WiFi is the gateway to being able to do so many amazing things with your iPad like download apps! Watch this! Detailed Script You can always play around with the sound and volume on your iPad while listening to music. The onscreen keyboard provides you with many shortcuts that make your life a lot easier. A few of my favorites are how to type letters with accents and how to get apostrophes and quotation marks without going to the number screen. The video give a great demonstration of how to use these and many more. Lets watch it and practice the skills while we watch. Instructions for connecting to WiFi: tap Settings, tap WiFi, if WiFi toggle slider is set to OFF, slide to On. Under Choose a Network you will see a list of wireless networks available. Tap the wireless network you wan to connect to. Enter the password. FYI: Some restaurants/stores require you to accept an Acceptable Use Policy.   5. Email, Calendar, Web, & Settings Module 2 Email App – once you set up your email on your iPad, you are always logged into it. This is a nice feature but means students can easily read or delete your emails. Watch this video to see the steps to follow to set up your email on your iPad. Calendar App – One great things about your iPad is that once you have set up your email with your iPad, your iPad calendar will sync with your Outlook calendar online. Anything you put on your iPad calendar will show up on your Outlook calendar online and visa versa. Need more? Detailed Script Email and Calendar are two applications that teachers can really use to your advantage to make your busy life easier. One great feature is the ability to change the signature on your email. This is something you can do by going to settings, email and finally signature. The calendar feature is a wonderful way to collect all of the puzzle pieces to your life. Lets take a few minutes to practice using the Calendar app and adding events into it. Lets share some experiences (good and bad) you have had when your students use the internet on iPads. Have a 20 minute discussion. Something that will help ease your minds when it comes to letting your students explore the internet is understanding there are precautions you can take like making bookmarks for the students to go to or accessing the browser history. Delving into all the possible settings on an iPad could take days! The video will help remind you or explain to you how to use some of the general settings, find these on your iPad while we watch. To Install an App go to the App Store, tap Categories and Browse. - Look for: Education Collection or What’s Hot Education Apps. To Download an App tap on the word “free” or the “$1.99”, then enter your apple ID and password. To open an App: tap once on the app icon. To close an App: double tap on the home button OR spread out all five fingers on one hand and pinch them together toward the middle of the screen. To Download an App tap on the word “free” or the “$1.99”, then enter your apple ID and password. To open an App: tap once on the app icon.   9. Applications Module 3 How to use your camera, iBook and Educreations to better your professional life and students. Your iPad’sCamera has wonderful resolution and can be helpful for documentation. Check out the Tutorial. iBooksare a great way to find information to further your professional development or to give your students access to books. Educreations– click on the link to watch tutorial. Great tool that allows teachers or students to easily create a fun presentation about any type of material. Check out this Educreation that high school students made about Photosynthesis. Detailed Script iBooks is an app that comes with your iPad. It allows your to download books you are interested in buying with internet access. Your students can read books on iPads using iBooks. The best feature is that IBooks will read the book to the student! Educreations is an app that allows teachers to make fun, engaging lessons for their students. It also allows students to show their comprehension of a topic. This tool is simple to use but very engaging. For example you can easily switch the background to lined paper or graph paper if that suits your lesson needs. Interactivity / Navigation Watch video then go to the next slide (1o)
