Old Testament • Jeremiah—Never married (Jer. 16:1-13) • Ezekiel—Widowed (Ezekiel 24:18) • Hosea—Divorced (Hosea 1 -2) • Deborah, Rebecca’s nurse (Genesis: 24:59, 35:8) • Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid (Genesis 21) • Dinah, sexually abused by Shechem (Genesis 34) • Miriam, sister of Moses (Genesis 2:4, 15:20-21, Numbers 26:59) • Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, died - a widow and single again (Ruth) • Vashti, opted for divorce instead of disgrace, single again (Esther 1, 2:1, 4:7) • Joseph, fled advances of Potiphar’s wife • Isaac, single till age forty, unusual in O. T. days (Genesis 24-25)
