  2. To express the duration of an event in French, depuisand pendantare used. Many English speakers tend to translate for as pour, but this is rarely correct when talking about time.

  3. Depuis means since or for. It is used with a verb in the present tense to talk about an action that began in the past and continues in the present.

  14. Le verbeest au futur • Je vais habiter en France pendant 2 mois. • I'm going to live in France for 2 months.

  15. Pour is only used to indicate the duration of an event in the future: Je vais y habiter pour / pendant 2 mois. I'm going to live there for 2 months. Both pour and pendant are acceptable here.

  16. Ça fait / voilà / il y a + présent Pour insister sur la durée: Tex, il y a combien de temps quetuconnais Tammy? Bette: Tex, how long have you known Tammy? Tex: Ça fait deux ans. Tex: It's been two years.

  17. Exemple: Bette: Tex, ça fait longtempsquetuenseignes le français? Bette: Tex, how long have you been teaching French? Tex: Voilà un an quej'enseigne le français. Tex: I've been teaching French for a year.
