Conservation Security Program (CSP) • 18 watersheds in FY04 • 202 watersheds in FY05 • 60 watersheds in FY06 • Rewards farmers who are meeting the highest standards of conservation and environmental management • Promotes the conservation and improvement of soil, water, air, energy, plant and animal life
6 CSP Air Resource Enhancement Goals • Reducing particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5) • Reducing odors • Reducing airborne chemical drift • Reducing ammonia emissions • Reducing Ozone precursors (VOC’s, NOx) • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O) and increasing carbon sequestration
Specific CSP Air Resource & Energy Enhancements Reducing Diesel Emissions • Utilization of biodiesel • Reduced tillage or no-till • Reduction of travel • Combining and/or reducing field operations • Reduced pesticide applications through use of forecast system
CSP Energy Enhancement: Utilization of Biofuels for Reductions in Diesel Emissions • Biodiesel • Ethanol Enhancement Payment: $25.00 per 100 gallons actual biofuel used on-farm per year
Example 500 gallons B10 biodiesel used on-farm per year (10% bio) Enhancement Payment: 500 gal x 0.10 = 100 gal bio 100 gal x $25/100 gal = $25 per year
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) • Reduction of emissions, such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides (NOx), volatile organic compounds, and ozone precursors and depleters that contribute to air quality impairment violations of National Ambient Air Quality Standards • Financial and Technical Assistance (millions) AL $16.8, FL $25.2, GA $19.1, KY $13.5, MS $20.6, NC $18.2, SC $9.8, TN $ 12.8
