The Founder of North Carolina • North Carolina was founded in 1653 • The Colony founder was King Charles the 2nd , but he gave the area to eight businessman.
How The Founder Ended Up Owning The Land • The eight businessmen were more interested in making money from the colony than in governing it. • So Thomas Jarvis, the first deputy governor ruled the colony wisely and gained the colonists’ acceptance. • So all in all Thomas Jarvis really ended up ruling the land.
What The Founder Wanted To Use The Land For • The eight businessmen wanted to use the land to make money. • However Thomas Jarvis wanted to use the land for economic reasons and for religious reasons.
The Colony’s Significance to Early America • Tobacco is North Carolina’s leading field crop and that is what got them on the map. • Cotton is the second leading field crop in North Carolina
A Nickname For North Carolina • “The Old North State” is one of its original nicknames • “The Tar Heel State” is also a nickname it has. • If I would make one up for North Carolina it would be “The Mountain State” • I would give it that nickname because the mountains there are so nice and breath taking
