Who is Heifer International? • Heifer’s mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. • Since 1944, Heifer International has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income.
World reach • Heifer is currently working in more than 55 countries to help families and communities become more self-reliant. • It has helped 48 million people through training in livestock development and livestock gifts that multiply.
Passing on the gift • Every gift of an animal provides benefits such as milk, eggs, wool and fertilizer, increasing family incomes for better housing, nutrition, health care and school fees for children. • Recipients “Pass on the Gift” of offspring of their cows, goats and other livestock to others in an ever-widening circle of hope.

Why a canoe challenge? • Passion for canoeing and the outdoors • Strong background in volunteerism • A desire to teach my kids how they can help those in need by doing something they really love. For me it’s paddling. • Our family have been supporters of Heifer International for years and so The Big Moo Canoe made sense as a way to support a great cause.
How will we do this? • Paddle: • ~ 40,000/day strokes, eat, sleep, repeat • Awareness • Regional press, radio and speaking engagements • Donations • Community sponsorships and donations • $2,000 to date

For a long time it was hard. Then a neighbor helped him get connected with Heifer International.
Who supports Heifer? • "Heifer Project is courageously addressing some of the most difficult problems facing our world today—ending hunger, preserving the environment, empowering women and building strong, self-reliant families and communities." — Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Senator, New York • Jimmy Carter • Barbara Kingsolver • Walter Cronkite • Susan Sarandan • Ted Danson • Ed Asner • Chuck Jones
Please consider a donation • Heifer helps build strong communities because each project participant agrees to pass on the gift of animal offspring, training, or skills to another family in need. • Think about it: a single donation that’ll last for generations.
