What is it? Compost is created by recycling yard and kitchen wastes which decompose into a rich, Dark crumbly substance that can be added to naturally enrich the soil for planting.
Compost is a valuable resource Instead of needlessly filling our landfills with garbage , people are realizing they can impact the environment in a positive way by creating compost.
Composting Fundamentals To have a successful compost pile you need three basic things:
1.Air Composting Microbes are Aerobic. They need air to do their work. Otherwise the anaerobic microbes take over and make your pile smelly.
2. Water Your pile should be as moist as a wrung-out sponge to decompose properly. Too wet or too dry will not allow the microbes to work properly.
3.Food Your pile needs two kinds of food: Browns. such as dry and dead plant material. Autumn leaves, straw, and wood chips. Greens. Such as fruit and vegi scraps, green leaves, manure, and grass clippings.
Now Give your Pile an occasional turn, and let it cook, and you’ll end up with black gold.
