City of Unley Ageing Strategy • Comprises five discreet domains: • Services – to assist older people to remain independent and ‘age in place’ • Access and Mobility – infrastructure and programs • Housing - diversity • Community Engagement and Participation – eg volunteering, communication tools • Wellbeing – eg recreational opportunities
Unley’s Age-Friendly Journey SOME INITIATIVES • Unley Central Master Plan • Open Space Strategy/Sport & Recreational Master Plans • Community Engagement Toolkit • Community Passenger Network • Development Planning • TACSI Care Reflect Program • Mobility Access Study
LANEWAY HOUSING • Laneway: • Historically used to service the outhouse • Secondary access to property • Opportunity for strategic densification by developing secondary dwellings • In home formal and informal care $11,370 per person per year • Residential aged care - $48,710 per person per year
PROJECTS WITH TACSI • CARE REFLECT • Caring is not just a transaction eg cleaning • Caring is about building relationships, exchanging experiences and learning new things • Create time and space for care workers to practice caring that enables good living
PROJECTS WITH TACSI WEAVERS • Carers usually have enormous stress • Existing services do little to reduce stress for carers • Weavers are people with lived caring experience who are trained and supported to help people new to the caring role activate their friends and family, navigate systems and learn new strategies.
