  7. What does the Church need to give Parishioners? • Survival • Meet immediate need • Call them to prayer • Safety • God’s law – looking for order/structure in life • Belong – Need to feel that they “belong”

  8. What does the Church need to give Parishioners? • Community Issues ($600/year tithe) • Information – What’s going on? • Newsletter • Sunday Bulletin • Call to leadership…move to providing • Identity • Call to conversation

  9. What does the Church need to give Parishioners? • Meaning of Life Issues • Formation/Bible Study/Education for Ministry • Call to Sacrifice • Purpose • Stories of lives saved and changed by the Gospel • Call to Martyrdom/Mission Meaning and Purpose give 75% of money.

  10. Generations • G.I. – (Born 1926 or earlier) – 37 Million • Loyalty is highest value • Motto – “We will prevail” • Silent – (1927-1943) – 28 Million • Degreed • “We will cope”…not good leaders • No clear vision • Provide bulk of giving

  11. Generations • Boomers (Born 1944-1964) – 47 Million • “I will be satisfied” – Idealistic • Drug – Vietnam protest • Only 30% church members • 50% divorced • Spend what they make • Sense of entitlement • Clergy enlistment falls

  12. Generations • Buster or X’ers (1965-1985) – 43 Million • Majority raised in broken homes • Only 9% are church members • “I will be authentic” • Relationships • Tailor-made for the Gospel • Boomers and Busters are scary to each other

  13. Generations • Millinials (1986 & later) • “I will succeed or achieve” • 30% more homework than prior generation • Computer literate • Concerned about hypocrisy • 1950’s Sunday School works well with this group

  14. Vestry – What is it? • “Vested” with temporal authority • Origins in Medieval England • Leadership – in front. Make things happen • Take risks. Consequences for risks • No Constituencies – represent whole parish • Vestry – Temporal Affairs • Rector – Spiritual Affairs Rector and Vestry work as a Team

  15. Leadership • Know the congregation • Know ministries and services • Plan for growth – 5 year plan • Be in front of the pack! • Take responsibility for decisions • Delegate responsibilities and broaden participation…Commission system

  19. Goals -- Spiritual • Worship – Offer the best we have to God • Education – All ages K thru Adults • Pastoral Care – Priest & People share • Outreach – Personal Service & Money (10%+) • Evangelism

Evangelism • Personal…Not a program • “He brought him to Jesus” John 1:42 • Must know the faith! • “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence.” 1 Peter 3:15 • Enthusiasm • How can the unchurched be reached?

  23. Directed Capital Campaign • Focuses on objective desired by congregation • Builds community • Releases 2nd Mile giving • Stimulates giving far into the future • Initial Capital Campaign can raise approximately 3X annual income
